Social Concerns

Catholic Social Services *

Catholic Social Services based out of Columbus offers a variety of services ranging from prevention and education to crisis intervention.  All are designed to help families succeed. This service is committed to collaborating with other church-initiated efforts in needs assessment, program planning and service delivery.  In Newark, the work of CSS is focused on the elderly.  Their office is located on W. Main Street.

Clothing Drive

This ministry was originally formed to help area organizations stock their closets to cloth those in need.  Many hands are needed to receive, sort and deliver the boxes of clothing that are so generously donated.

Heartbeats of Licking County *

The mission of Heartbeats is to create an environment where every human heart is cherished and protected within the womb and in strong families.  Heartbeats helps women in crisis pregnancies and encourages chastity as a positive lifestyle.

Newborns in Need *

This charity was organized to take care of premature and needy babies and their families; and in cases of crisis, to help where help is needed. Newborns in Need is founded upon Christian principles and provides essential items without charge to those in need.  Volunteers donate their time and talents to knit and sew items for the tiniest of God’s creatures.

Respect Life Committee

Following the guidelines of the diocese, Respect Life speaks out for the sanctity and dignity of all human life, from conception until natural death.  The four-prong approach includes education, prayer, outreach, and political advocacy.  Members pray a Rosary for Life every Saturday morning.

St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul offers tangible assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basis. It is this personalized involvement that makes the work of the Society unique. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation, or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. An essential precept of the Society’s work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served. The Society recognizes that it must assume, also, a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless or voiceless.
