“In praise of God meet duty and delight …” (Erik Routley)
We welcome newcomers to join our various ensembles – we would love to meet you and Dr. Christopher Urbiel, Director of Music, will be glad to speak with you about your talents and interests. For inquiries and for the current schedule of rehearsals and other events (since schedules can change periodically), please feel free to contact Christopher.
The Parish Choir (open to singers of high school age and up) sings for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass during the academic year, and for other Mass times as scheduled, in addition to feast days and special choral events. Rehearsals are held on most Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the choir loft.
The Youth Choir (open to singers of elementary school age) sings for many Sunday Masses and additional commitments as announced. Members who attend our parish school also sing for school liturgies, and the entire group presents two concerts per year. Rehearsals are held on most Thursdays from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the choir loft.
The Saint Cecilia Choir sings for all funerals at St. Francis de Sales. This choir is open to all who can commit to the usual funeral time of 10:30 a.m. (although you do not need to be available every time, and some funerals are held at other times). The choir assembles for each funeral at 10:15 a.m. in the Choir Loft. Please consider joining us in this important ministry to the bereaved.
The Schola Cantorum (open to all singers) is a choir that meets to study chant in Latin and English, as well as other forms of liturgical music, thereby enriching our worship with unique musical forms. The group sings for two weekend Masses per month and rehearses on two Tuesday evenings per month.
The Cantors chant the Psalm, Alleluia, and Communion Antiphon for Mass. Music reading ability is very desirable for this ministry, but can be taught and developed. Cantors rehearse at 7:00 p.m. Thursdays (before the Parish Choir rehearsal), in addition to individual rehearsals held as needed. It is helpful for cantors to be a member of one of our choirs. If you have scheduling conflicts, Christopher is willing to work with you. Rehearsals are held on most Thursdays throughout the year.
