New Parish Business Manager

August 7, 2017

St. Francis de Sales welcome Jim Knox to our staff! Jim retired in July 2015 after working for Worthington Industries for 35 years. The last 12 years of his career was serving as VP of Global Operations. Jim is married to Lisa, has four children, two grandchildren and two dogs. Jim’s youngest son Thomas passed away unexpectedly in December 2015 at the age of 14. Thomas attended school at St. Charles Preparatory and Jim and Lisa have spent the last 1-1/2 years fundraising for both a scholarship endowment fund at St. Charles and for an outdoor inline roller hockey rink to be built in Westerville next spring, both in memory of Thomas.

Upon the passing of Thomas, Jim turned to the Lord and continues to strengthen his faith to help him deal with his loss and the related pain. Over the past year Jim has had several experiences with the Holy Spirit working through him. He credits his relationship with Jesus for the love and peace he feels and he continues to seek guidance by trusting in the Lord.

Jim’s background includes operations management, where he was instrumental in growing the business from $250,000 to over $1 billion in sales at his retirement. Jim’s areas of responsibilities included strategic planning, budgeting, human resources, project management, lean manufacturing, crisis resolution, scheduling, quality control, engineering, purchasing, and safety/environmental. Jim led or participated in 12 acquisitions in his executive tenor at Worthington Industries and served on numerous boards of directors in both the U.S. and companies abroad.

Jim was instrumental in developing a school-to-work program in Westerville. He served on both the Westerville Education Foundation and the Westerville Chamber of Commerce, where he was also chairman of the board. Jim was named Westerville businessperson of the year in 2000.

Jim enjoys walking his dogs, golfing, hockey, OSU football, country/Christian music and the beach.

Jim is a firm believer in the “Golden Rule”, in which we should treat people the way we want to be treated. He believes communication is key to effective teamwork and that one must create and foster an environment where it is fun to participate.
