Our teachers use The Creative Curriculum for all levels of our academic core classes. This innovative curriculum uses critical scaffolding techniques that are so important in understanding & organizing all that they are learning. It also encourages wonderful literacy development as well as higher level math thinking. Teachers implement thematic learning stations in the following areas: Math, Science, Writing and Language, Art, Sensory, Practical Life, Everyday Living, Block & Building, and Tactile learning/Fine Motor, Music, and Gross motor. While implementing the Creative Curriculum, we also weave our Christian Catholic faith in all lessons and learning centers. Jesus Christ is at the center of all we do! Our students are encouraged to be compassionate & independent thinkers as well as problem solvers.
WE GO OUT! We also go on many outings with the preschool classes throughout the year that complement our world learning. Some trips in the recent past have included: Dawes Arboretum, The Works Science Museum, Lynd’s Fruit Farm, as well as our local library.
Other Activities: We integrate many guest and presentations into our learning. We invite local community helpers to talk with the children about all that they offer in service. Recent community friends have been: firefighters, dentist, The Wilds Animal Sanctuary, priests, and religious sisters.
We adhere to the State of Ohio’s Early Childhood Learning Standards. These can be found on the website of the ODE under Early Childhood. www.ode.state.oh.us
We implement the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Montessori Atrium Program as our faith formation piece of our whole child learning experience. The Joyful Child Atrium is a specially prepared room where children can come to know Jesus and our faith more. The Atrium is prepared with materials that children work with as a way of meditating upon our faith and reflecting on aspects of our Catholic worship of Christ.
There are so many wonderful benefits in participating in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program:
