What are Parent’s Saying?

“My name is Tricia Moore and I am here to speak to you about the wonderful preschool we have here at St. Francis. My husband Matt joined the church in 2006 through the RCIA program and I have been a lifelong member of the parish. We have three children. Two of my children graduated from the preschool and have moved to St. Francis School. My youngest child is currently in the preschool. I can honestly say that sending my children through St. Francis Preschool was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It gave my children a head start in education as well as helped them build an early foundation in their faith, both of which will serve them for the rest of their lives.

Educationally, the staff is exceptional. They are all very knowledgeable in early childhood development. They can identify your child’s strengths and needs and build on both those areas so that your child develops confidence in all their abilities. My children also learned to socialize and work in a group setting using respect and kindness for others as guiding principles. Because of the education, my children received from the preschool they had a very smooth and successful transition into kindergarten and found themselves well prepared for the challenges ahead.

What also makes this preschool stand out from other preschools is the integration of Christ into the classroom. Mrs. Burd the director of the preschool and the teachers that I have had the privilege of knowing are all models of their faith and demonstrate to the children what it means to be imitators of Christ. Their love for what they do and the children they teach is evident. I know when I drop off my child that he is safe and that the teachers will care for him like he was their own.

Through the integration of faith in the curriculum, my children grew in their relationship with God. As busy working parents, we do our best to teach our children the faith but sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day to give God the full attention He deserves. To have our values and our faith reinforced at school is priceless. They learn about the mass through the use of the Atrium where the children have an altar, baptismal font, chalice and other items they can explore and learn their meaning and use. They learn about holy days, the lives of the Saints, and Eucharistic Adoration. Through this integration of faith, they see Christ presence throughout their day and in all aspects of their life.

I encourage all families with children preschool age to consider St. Francis de Sales Preschool. Visit the classrooms, meet the staff, and talk with the parents of current students like myself. I am confident if you do you will see what a special place it is and how fortunate we are to have such a resource in our parish.”

“My name is Ashley Hindes.  When my husband and I moved to the Newark area in 2008, we joined St. Francis de Sales Parish knowing that if we were blessed with children we would send them to St. Francis de Sales School.  As a graduate of a Catholic school, it was never a question as to what type of education I wanted for my future children.  As our twin girls, now 6, approached preschool age my husband and I had many conversations as to whether they would stay in the daycare program that we adored or if they would attend the preschool program at St. Francis.  After attending the open house at St. Francis Preschool, speaking with Mrs. Michelle Burd and all of the staff and hearing about the program my husband and I got into the car, looked at each other, and just smiled.  Our hearts knew that our children belonged at St. Francis Preschool and there was no better place for them to begin their education.  As a parent, we only want what is best for our children and we often question our decisions.  Enrolling our 3 children into the St. Francis preschool program has never been a decision we have questioned.

All 3 of our children, our girls now in Kindergarten and our son in the 4-year-old Seraphim class, love to learn and love school.  I contribute this to their loving teachers who instilled in them a sense a confidence and made each activity meaningful to them.   St. Francis Preschool not only offers fun, hands-on activities that promote a child’s reading, writing, and math skills, the program also fosters an enriching environment built around our faith and building a relationship with God.  The preschool is unique in how the instructors and director have implemented Montessori methodology into the curriculum.  The Montessori methodology is a child-centered educational approach that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative play. This is just one of the unique ways our preschool stands out above the rest. Another way that the Montessori method is implemented in the preschool is through the of use of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This is a unique way of teaching children how to explore and learn more about their faith and spirituality.  Our children love learning about Jesus and our faith and with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, I could see them falling more in love with Jesus every day.  When we would ask our girls, and now our son, what they like most about preschool they reply “Atrium”.  They share with us the Bible stories taught to them in Atrium and I adore that they were and are continuing to learn about the foundations of our faith through hands-on activities and spiritual reflection.

As a parent, we love that the teachers focus on fostering healthy, inquisitive minds with strong values.  We appreciate the weekly, and sometimes, daily communications as they allow us to be a part of what our children are doing and learning in school.  We are thankful for when their teachers take time out of their day to write us an email or tell us a funny story about what one of our kids did that day.  Their love of teaching shines through and each preschool student is excited and eager to learn and love our Lord.  St. Francis de Sales preschool truly does bring “the truths of Jesus Christ and a peaceful and academically stimulating environment to each child” in their program.  We are blessed to have them be our partner in parenting and educating our children”.
