What is Surrendering the Secret?
If you feel you have never completely healed or recovered from an abortion experience, or that a past abortion may be affecting your current quality of life, then Surrendering the Secret is for you.
This study offers an 8-step biblical healing modeled by women who have been where you are. Surrendering the Secret is a study designed to bring women together who understand the need for seeking peace with the past and desire a better understanding of God’s plan for making the most painful losses of our past work for His glory!
Led by Catholic women who themselves have experienced the pain of abortion, our mission is to provide a supportive and confidential environment that facilitates healing and restoration from a past abortion and bringing a sense of hope and purpose for the future. Surrendering the Secret can help you begin your healing journey. The volunteers in the ministry are there to support you with compassion, love and understanding. The ministry team will help you accept forgiveness and to build a better relationship with God and others.
That is OK, the ministry volunteers of Surrendering the Secret are patient, and they meet you where you are. They will help and guide you so you can begin your healing journey.
Surrendering the Secret is important because of the confidentiality, the sharing, the support, and connection you receive from the other post abortive women and men. Often the pain and alienation of suffering after an abortion is intensified by a perceived secrecy and shame. We create an environment where shame is cast out, mercy is given free reign and healing can begin.
Are you experiencing Post-Abortive Stress Syndrome?
- Do you find yourself struggling with feelings connected to your abortion(s)? Are you trying to make yourself “forget” about it?
- Are you emotionally affected by reminders of your abortion such as babies or pregnant women?
- Are there certain times of the year when you find yourself depressed, sick or accident-prone? Could these occur around the anniversary date of the abortion or the month the baby would be born?
- Have you experienced a substantial increase in drug or alcohol use? Are you involved in self-destructive behaviors (e.g., eating disorders, abusive relationships, increased sexual activity)?
- Have you experienced prolonged depression? Have you had any suicidal thoughts since your abortion?
- Are you able to talk about abortion? When you begin to discuss abortion, are you overcome with strong feelings?
- If you have children now, do you overprotect them? Or, are you unable to bond with the child or children?
